Top Tips for Top Candidates

An interview last 30-45 minutes, during this very short time, company decides on whether Applicant is suitable. Psychologists have established through research that in the first 2 minutes (!) of an interview, the decision to employ has been made, whether at a conscious or subconscious level and the interview time is used to established this fact.

We always make impressions and generate a certain type of energy, these need to reflect positively in a tough employment market.

Dress Code

Sober colours and a conservative look are always the safest. Crisp clean, well fitting and relaxed clothing will reflect attention to person and to detail. Personal grooming is crucial and reflects a clean life-style. While dress code may have shifted over the last few years, the above still remains extremely relevant without denying your individuality.

Body Language

Your interviewer offers you a mirror and sets the tone of language. He/she also looks for resonance with you.
A Firm hand-shake, a smile, a relaxed body – take a couple of minutes while you’re waiting for interview to breathe slowly in and out.

Folded arms imply self-protection, relax them, put them on your armrest or rest them on you lap – you’re sending a message of openness
Eye-contact: should be direct and not shifty
In African Cultures, lowering one’s eyes is a sign of respect – In the Western world direct eye-contact is a sign of honesty.
