Would lying on you CV help get the job?

 

It is sometimes tempting to embellish your CV. Tempting to say on your CV that you were in a position for longer than you were…that you had more responsibility than you had, performed better than you did…or in fact that you never had a criminal record.

The question is, “Is it worth it?” The chances are your little “lie” will be discovered. Recruitment agencies are like detective agencies when it comes to sorting out the integrity of the candidates they put forward for positions. They will check your references, your credit and criminal records. In fact every minute detail about you can be checked.

 

Keep your CV honest

 

It will come back at you if you have not been honest on your CV – if you have exaggerated, embellished or not disclosed the real truth. Employers are not interested in employing people who are not honest and ultimately you are selling yourself short.

 

It you do have skeletons in your CV closet, it is best to upfront about it as there is more chance of being given a “break” for being honest about your past than there is by lying about it.  

 

 

For the best chance at getting a great job, it is best to keep your CV truthful.
