Social Media and Job Hunting

Social media is a big factor in most of our lives these days. Most people and companies have some form of social media platform that they use regularly, the most popular being Facebook, Twitter and Linkedin.

Your social media profiles

Be careful how you represent yourself on your social media profiles when job hunting. If there are images of you completely drunk or drugged, sporting your latest tattoo, dressed in drag or making radical social comment, make sure your settings are private on those posts.

Social media profile consistency

Ensure that all your social media profiles reflect the same thing about you. Check that your spelling is correct and your posts make sense. Post content that is useful and indicative of your field. 

Social media profiles as a background check

Recruiters and employers frequently check social media profiles when doing a background check on candidates – not just your CV or cover letter. How you use social media can have an effect on how potential employers perceive you. The way you use social media can influence your chances of landing a great job. Make sure you are fair to yourself on your social media profiles.
